On Untemplater Again

Just a quick update to let you all know that I have another guest post on Untemplater. This one is about road magic, the universal force that helps travelers out when you need it the most. The trick to getting road magic is by being free and open and not having things planned to a T.
I remember one of the best times road magic helped me out. I was in Europe backpacking around with a friend. We had Eurorail tickets and we were in Germany. We were suppose to go to another city in Germany, we had plans, but we were running late and we made it to the train station just in time to watch our train whistle away. We were pissed, and angry and we stood on the track in total disbelief.
“What do we do now?” asked my friend.
At that moment a new train pulled up in front of us. The front of the train said Verona.
“Where’s that?” I asked. My friend had no idea. She opened the guidebook and said, “Italy.”
We looked at each other, looked back at the train, shrugged our shoulders, said “okay” and got on. Within a few minutes we were on our way. The train ended up going through the Swiss and Italian Alps, It was summer and the landscape was green with little wooden cabins and white fuzzy sheep dotting the lower part of the mountains. I half expected to see blond girls with braids in blue and white checkered outfits lugging wooden pails of milk down to their home. Or Julie Andrews spinning and singing on the hillside.
It was the most gorgeous train ride I have ever taken, and would never have happened if we didn’t go with the flow. It also turned out that Verona, home of Romeo and Juliet, was an amazing place. Juliet’s balcony is still there and I sat in what was (allegedly) Romeo’s house with a bunch of old Italian men drinking cappuccino.
Hope you enjoy the post and I hope everyone gets to experience road magic sometime in their life! And if you are a first time visitor from Untemplater, welcome! Take a look around a join the RSS feed if you like what you see!

The Five Books I Keep Returning To

As a (attempting) minimalist, and a traveler who has no permanent home base, I try to keep as little stuff as possible, which is quite a feat given that I have natural pack rat tendencies, and enjoy collections (hello spoons of the world). Books are one of the most common

100 Years of the CCP and All I Got was This Lousy Light Show

Okay, I click-baited you with that title. It wasn’t a lousy light show at all, it was quite spectacular but “…and all I got was this spectacular light show” isn’t how the t-shirt goes, so there you have it. So yeah, July 1st was the 100th anniversary of the founding

    Verona, “Where’s that?”
Oy, your high school english teacher is now realizing you didn’t pay attention in the Shakespeare classes at all.

So I am getting ready to send the second book in the Owen series off the agent. Congrates on you new book. Blessings. Jo
