Party Time!

It’s no secret that I love my birthday. I’ve written about it almost every year on my blog. Having a summertime birthday kinda sucks as a kid (you never get to bring cupcakes into class, your friends are already gone for the summer), so I decided as an adult I’d make my own fun.
At this point I have a “tradition,” having a big BBQ party at a nearby mountain. It’s got lots of space to run around and play, and it’s a beautiful setting. Thsi year was the biggest bash yet, with about 60 students coming (from my favorite classes and a few of the new students I especially like) and some of the foreign teachers along with my friends from Hangzhou who were awesome enough to come and spend the whole weekend in Lin’an.
In fact, later the next day, while coming home from meeting my Chinese friend parents, I was suddenly overcome with an overwhelming feeling of love and happiness. I really don’t know what I did to deserve it, but these days, in every part of my life (work, social) I am surrounded by amazing people who love me and I love back. It’s feels so good and I know, no matter what, I am exactly where I’m supposed to be doing exactly what I’m supposed to do.

My darling students eating the potato salad I made. Yuuuum.
I made potato salad for my students to try. Most of them loved it, while a few kind of screwed up their faces after taking a bite. “What do you think?” I asked. “Weird,” they said.

BBQ's in China are a little different than American barbecues. For instance, you don't usually snack on a giant pack of dry tofu in the states!

My friends brought water guns, which the students thought was a great idea. As the birthday girl I ended up getting soaked. Like, just-took-a-shower soaked.

This is one of my all-time favorite pictures. My friends and my students, all fooling around and having a good time. It's all the good parts of my life together in one picture.

Bored, playing around on my computer the other day, I started looking through old bookmarks on my browser. Since I have been an Apple user for a long time, whenever I get a new device or computer, it copies everything over automatically and I have bookmarked websites I haven’t looked

Looks like a ton of fun! Happy Birthday! I just celebrated my 29th birthday on the 21st, so I totally understand about the summer birthday being a rip when you’re a child. Now that I’m a teacher, I’m just glad I never have to work on my birthday! Haha.

Happy belated birthday to you! When I was a kid the only thing I really liked about my b-day was that it was exactly 6-months from Christmas which ensured a good present infusion every 6 months. ;p
